Journalism
I write news and features for regional, national and international publications, largely within my main areas of expertise health, food and nutrition. I am especially interested in food allergy, food intolerance, coeliac disease and other digestive disorders, as well as issues concerning food ingredients and labelling, weight loss and obesity, antioxidants, omega oils, functional foods, food and diet trends, and future nutrition.
Some recent examples include:
- The Red Wine Diet Daily Telegraph (Australia)

- 7 Colours to Have on Your Plate Guardian Weekend (UK)

- The New It Foods for Kids Business Day (South Africa)

I also write regularly on pregnancy and parenting issues including infant and childhood nutrition and education as well as occasionally covering the arts and entertainment, grooming and style, relationships, science, careers, the environment, writing and journalism. Sometimes, I pen the odd humorous or observational piece too.
Past and present clients in the UK and Ireland include The Guardian, The Guardian Weekend, The Times Educational Supplement, The Irish Times, Health & Fitness, You Are What You Eat, Allergy Magazine, Women’s Health, Optimum Nutrition, Natural Health & Beauty, Foods Matter, Lighter Life, Organic Life, Pregnancy Baby & You, Infant, Maternity, Junior, The London Career Guide and Writing Magazine among about 20 other titles.
I also write for the Telegraph (Australia), Grocers’ Review (New Zealand) and Business Day (South Africa).
My stories are imaginative, topical and thought-provoking, and my writing is driven by a desire to inform and motivate the reader to take positive action for their own health and well-being. Topics relating to food and health are constantly in the media, with doctors, scientists and nutritionists often in disagreement about what we should and should not be eating and doing to maintain our well-being. This, when combined with contradictory or sensationalised research findings, can baffle or alienate the consumer.
I aim to reassure and draw in the reader and clarify even complex issues in an informative and entertaining way. In this respect, I place great value on authoritative input: the experts I interview and quote are specialists in their respective fields, and always provide excellent commentary and soundbites while remaining within the boundaries of medical accuracy.
